5th grade scientists in action! 🌎 During today’s outdoor lab, students investigated how the gravitational force is always directed down toward Earth’s center. We’re thankful for our teachers who make learning hands-on and bring science to life outside the classroom! #SpringdaleFamily

Kindergarten and 1st grade enrichment groups combined art and science this week! Students explored creativity by designing bats using geometric shapes. Then, they became sound scientists by discovering that sound travels in waves and experimenting with vibrations in a hands-on activity using spoons and yarn. 🦇🎶 #SpringdaleFamily

Our 5th grade GT students took learning to new heights! 🚁 Mr. Travis McAfee from NWA Drone Photography visited to teach students about drone safety, STEM careers connected to drone technology, and the physics of flight. ROAR was fortunate enough to take a trip to the Old Spanish Treasure Cave today. We didn't find the famous lost treasure, but we did learn all about cave formations, the history of Spanish Conquistadors in Arkansas, and panhandled for all sorts of rocks and minerals! It’s been a fun few days watching our butterflies transform! Students observed the chrysalis closely and were amazed to witness the moment a beautiful butterfly emerged. #SpringdaleFamily

Kindergartners have been learning about creative fluency—the ability to generate lots of ideas! We compared it to popcorn, because our brains can pop with many new ideas just like kernels. To bring this to life, students enjoyed a fun, hands-on activity exploring the science of dancing popcorn kernels🍿 #SpringdaleFamily

🎃 Pumpkin Decorating Contest at STEAMFEST! 🎃 We’re excited to announce a Pumpkin Decorating Contest as part of our STEAMFEST celebrations! • Enter with your family, friends, or even as a whole class—everyone is welcome to participate! • Pumpkins are due by Wednesday, October 22nd. • Please note: No carving—decorating and painting only. 🗳️ Voting will take place during STEAMFEST on Thursday, October 23rd! 🌟 Community Partner Spotlight: AR Department of Agriculture – Forestry Division 🌟 We are excited to partner with the Arkansas Department of Agriculture: Forestry Division! 🌲🌳 Their team works to conserve and protect Arkansas’s forests while teaching communities about the importance of trees, fire prevention, and environmental stewardship. 🍂🌎 The Forestry Division will be joining us at our Fall Carnival STEAMFEST with an interactive booth full of hands-on learning and fun! 🌟 We are thankful for their partnership in helping our Wildcats grow as environmental stewards! #SpringdaleFamily

🍽️🎉 Thank you to all the families who joined us for Roar Family Night at Walker Elementary! Thanks to our 21CCLC Grant, our Wildcats enjoyed a fun evening of activities, learning, and community—complete with dinner together. We loved seeing our students and their families engaged, connecting, and celebrating all the amazing things happening at Walker.

ROAR is a fantastic program funded by the 21CCLC grant that provides free after school education that focuses on Reading, Art and Culture, STEAM, Math, Gross Motor and Wellness skills, and Working Memory skills. ROAR also provides a free snack and dinner.

Our program is partnered with the University of Arkansas to allow Spanish speaking students to attend a class with UofA Spanish students to help retain and enhance their native language.
